I’ve came to this hospital from Giles Hospital in Peterstown, WV due to chest pain, and hard to breathe. They’ve come to the conclusion I needed my gallbladder taken out, I’ve never had any surgery in my life; this hospital has been the very best I’ve been in. I’ve met the countless nurses, nurses assistance, house keeping; advocacy lady, and even the director of the hospital, asking how I was being treated by staff! They’ve been amazing! My neuro wants me to get in touch with his fiend who handles vertebrae, their in Morgantown. Four hours away from my house, that’s 8 hours to and from home. I’d rather come here an get my spine operated on! Close-ish to being at my home, and very friendly staff!

Hospitals are not hotels; medical personnel are not trained in customer service. After my recent second prolonged stay at Memorial Hospital, I can attest to those two facts. With changes in the art and science of medicine, there is much for all staff
members to learn and administer. Thank goodness mistakes and failure to fulfill requests are not made more often. On the plus, when I was able to formulate my questions clearly and kindly I was able to receive satisfactory answers. An episode when I asked to speak with the “head nurse,” the nurse in charge for my area came in to listen to me and a short time later left with me understanding what was happening. On the other hand, the dietary department was harder to deal with. I got accustomed to being served very little of what my stomach would tolerate. And then they are, unfortunately, those who do not belong in nursing. They deserve a separate letter to administration and not a rant on a public forum. All said and done , Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital is one of the best things we have going in the Valley.

This place is horrible. They have you sitting in the hallways with ppl coughing and picking in there noses without washing their hands touching on everything. They don't sanitize anything. A LPN actually stuck a thermometer in a patients mouth and afterwards didn't even sanitize the instrument and stuck it in another patients mouth. It disgusted me. And to have all them patients lined up in the hallways is absurd and so unclean. Coughing and crying and moaning is quite sad. Beds were open to put these ppl in rooms for privacy but yet they seem unconcerned. You have some nurses screaming at grown ppl like they 10 years old. And doing the most. Walking around doing nothing. Never again.

I came here with my son who was diagnosed with RSV. First problem I had is I asked the nurse to suction my baby out so that he could eat. Over 30 minutes went by no one came . The nurse finally asked “ hey does he still need to be suctioned out ?” I told her no because at that point my son was sleeping. Second problem I had they told me second day of being here that if my babies eating didn’t improve that they was going to put NG tube in and we’d have to stay another night. It got to be 8pm and we were told couple times before that, that the dr was going to come in and discuss it . Never did . The nurse finally came in said we will continue to watch how much he eats and on third day discuss the NG tube. At 1 am I was finally able to sleep only to be woke up at 2am that we were getting a roommate . A very sick roommate . The baby kept us up all night ( not his fault) , but I feel like every sick child needs their own room considering proper sleep helps all get well faster .Third problem: staff all was so exceptionally nice , however , they all were extremely loud at shift change especially early in the morning when everyone is still sleeping. I work in healthcare as well and all of this is unacceptable. Again, all nurses , assistants and drs were very nice , very helpful , but a few small things need to be worked on.

If I could give zero review, I would! Do not bring your child to this facility! My son was referred to this hospital by his PCP in Marion, VA back in 2015 for a surgery he had in December 2015. Prior to the surgery we had screening, at which time the hospital took our insurance information. My son had Medicaid and Tricare. A year later after the surgery, we moved to Dallas TX where we've been ever since. Now, for the past 3 years I've been getting threat letters saying I have a judgment against me. Memorial hospital recovery billing department (Carilion Clinic) has been writing me letters saying that in 2017 they were awarded a judgment against me for $8360!! Here's my question. Why didn't you guys reach out to the referral doctor for any further assistance with billing if you couldn't get in touch with me? My kids have had Medicaid since I was pregnant! They've had ear tube surgery. My daughter was hospitalized for 4 days for a seizure. We've had all types of medical needs, I've never received a medical bill! Why would I have thought this surgery was any different! How dare you scamming hospital go and get a judgment against for something I wasn't even aware of!!? We moved to TX within a year after his surgery! Your recovery department is super aggressive! Whenever I called trying to understand what exactly happened 2 years ago, you all accused me of running from my responsibilities claiming that I owe this money!! This is ridiculous and unacceptable!! Fix this Carilion Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA!!!!!!!!
