I was not happy with how staff updated immediate family on how my family member was doing. I had to drive over four hours to actually see my family member because I wasn't allowed to be told if she was doing any better. She was in ICU, and an update would have been greatly appreciated. I realize the nurses are busy, but immediate family should be taken into consideration and not just one person. I often wondered if the hospital ever considered the one person they chose might not be the best patient advocate for informing all the immediate family. I never got to tell my father goodbye because the patient advocate never informed me he was sick. I can never get that opportunity back. I will forever resent the hospital and patient advocate for doing me that way. And yet, here, the hospital is doing it to me again. I suggest if the nurses are that busy, the hospital hire someone to exclusively talk to the family because you are truly doing the immediate family wrong. The only reason I gave two stars was because I watched the nurse for several hours, and she did provide good care to my family member. I have never called the hospital ICU and worried the nurses. Not even once. I resent being treated this way over my sibling. My mother was not even allowed to check on my sibling. I truly hope all of you making these rules against immediate family find yourself in this deeply hurtful and heartbreaking situation and become humbled and remember you are changing more than just patients lives forever and that truly nothing can be done to make this better once a family member is gone. Goodbyes and closure are very important. As a medical professional of 28 years, I can not in good conscience recommend or refer your facility to any of the patients I interact with based on how I've been treated. Please do better.

Had my first child here at The BirthPlace and had an amazing experience. The rooms were clean and the staff were nice and respectful. I was listened to and informed well and had an overall good experience here, would definitely recommend using the Birth center here.

Hospitals are not hotels; medical personnel are not trained in customer service. After my recent second prolonged stay at Memorial Hospital, I can attest to those two facts. With changes in the art and science of medicine, there is much for all staff members to learn and administer. Thank goodness mistakes and failure to fulfill requests are not made more often. On the plus, when I was able to formulate my questions clearly and kindly I was able to receive satisfactory answers. An episode when I asked to speak with the “head nurse,” the nurse in charge for my area came in to listen to me and a short time later left with me understanding what was happening. On the other hand, the dietary department was harder to deal with. I got accustomed to being served very little of what my stomach would tolerate. And then they are, unfortunately, those who do not belong in nursing. They deserve a separate letter to administration and not a rant on a public forum. All said and done , Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital is one of the best things we have going in the Valley.

You know the saying The Circus has started but the monkeys haven't showed up...well my father had to come her for multiple reasons and less than stellar care. No one can get on the same page. I had to stay on them the whole week we were there because they are so slow. Call out for something and no one would come to the room, 40 minutes later finally which nothing was needed then. What a broken system. 26 hours in the ER waiting on a bed, unreasonable. I would not recommend taking anyone you care about here. What a roller-coaster we can't seem to get off of, then some lady told me to stay in my father's room lol nope not doing it not after a week and you get in my face. I don't think so. She said it was policy well bout the only policy they may have. Help us Jesus. Oh and today 03/16/25 canceled surgery again for "LACK OF ANESTHESIA" bologna no such thing as such. Someone needed to go home or be somewhere else instead of caring for my father. Needless to say 17 later discharged to our home facility for rehab just to find out that RONOAKE MESSED MY FATHERS FOOT UP AND WILL MOST LIKELY LOSE HIS LOWER LEG. The hispitalist DO Tashnia Tahsin of Carilion Roanoke Memorial spoke to us like animals and falsely documented in my father's chart that I convinced him to refuse labs which I did not. My father will tell you himself he told them no more blood draws. If I could give a negative star I would. The nurses were great.

I’ve came to this hospital from Giles Hospital in Peterstown, WV due to chest pain, and hard to breathe. They’ve come to the conclusion I needed my gallbladder taken out, I’ve never had any surgery in my life; this hospital has been the very best I’ve been in. I’ve met the countless nurses, nurses assistance, house keeping; advocacy lady, and even the director of the hospital, asking how I was being treated by staff! They’ve been amazing! My neuro wants me to get in touch with his fiend who handles vertebrae, their in Morgantown. Four hours away from my house, that’s 8 hours to and from home. I’d rather come here an get my spine operated on! Close-ish to being at my home, and very friendly staff!
