My daughter was being seen as a new patient and we arrived 5 minutes before our appointment to be told by the front desk receptionist that new patients are asked to come 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork. I told her that I was sorry and could complete the paperwork very quickly. She said the appointment was in three minutes, and I said I could get it done that quickly, and tried to explain that I drove as fast as I could to get my daughter there on time. She actually got all offended and said, “Whoa, no need to be rude!” She gave me the nastiest looks and kept making horrible comments about me and my daughter was just standing there with her mouth open because I am kind to everyone I meet and was not at all being rude!!!! Then, to top it off, she slammed the clipboard down on the counter and slammed the window shut in my face! I have NEVER been treated like that, and the fact that she did it in front of my 13-year old daughter was just shocking. I believe that if you are going to work with the public, you need to have a certain personality, and this woman should be fired immediately!

I wish I could have left zero stars. I've just gotten off the phone with the receptionist, I'm crying my eyes out. I'm new to the state and have been desperately trying to schedule an appointment with this practice for over a month. Unnecessary difficulty getting my medical information transferred over, so many phone calls back and forth, so much stress! I called AGAIN to ask if they had my information yet. She told me that they did have the information(FINALLY) but they would be shredding it because the providers decided not to take me on as a new patient. I asked why? Was there some criteria I didn't meet? Was I missing information? Well she told me that she doesn't know. That it's up to the provider. You're going to jerk me around for weeks then tell me all the work I've done to get you those medical records was all so you could shred them up?! What kind of place is this that you turn away someone who desperately needs asthma medication? I was never turned away from getting the care I needed in New York....

Been a Patient since moving to VA. Having my records transferred out ASAP. Mark; I hope you sometimes listen to the recordings of your front office staff when talking with incoming calls. Ken has been great for my wife, Mark for me, but I will not be spoken to with avarice, rudeness and indifference to my or my family's issues; particularly given the 15 years we've been seeing this practice. If this is the way to get rid of patients the practice doesn't want; it's working.

I should’ve heeded the feedback from other new patient reviews. We arrived as a new patient for my son. We arrived a few minutes before our appointment time and unfortunately I had forgotten our new patient paperwork. I was handed the new patient paperwork and advised they would see if the would still see my son. I nicely and hurriedly finished the paperwork and was promptly told they would not see us since it was not completed ahead of time and my sons couldn’t get there any quicker due to a school meeting. The doctor was still seeing another patient. THERE WAS NO ONE ELSE IN THE WAITING ROOM. We were told they would not see him that day. This was five minutes after our appointment time and seven minutes after we arrived. I am so sad and disappointed. My son had been waiting a over a month to be seen and was dejected that we were turned away and no effort to assist. We were told they are on a strict schedule (with no one waiting). Based on what we saw this practice is more concerned with themselves then with helping people who need it. In retrospect, I am glad it happened because this practice is obviously more concerned with a schedule then helping and listening to patients.

My husband and I have been patients at Salem Family Medicine for many years. Ken Anderson, PA and Dr. Mark Taylor are thoughtful and caring medical professionals. We highly recommend this family medicine practice. And, the office staff is equally kind and helpful. All together, they keep us in the best health we can be.
